Club News
Established in 1890, the National Flemish Giant Rabbit Club (NFGRC) is one of the oldest specialist clubs of the rabbit fancy in the United Kingdom.
The breed was at its peak from after the Great War until the 1960's. After that, the role of the Flemish Giant as a source of excellent meat and fur became less relevant. Due to the considerable size of the animals and effort required to keep and breed these magnificent rabbits, the number of breeders has been declining ever since.
Today, the NFGRC has 23 Members. To keep the club alive and, more importantly, develop the breed for the future, we would like to invite all owners and breeders of Flemish Giants to become members.
In 2005, celebrating the 115th anniversary of the club's foundation,
the Anniversary Challenge was first introduced. This prize of £1 per year the club existed is intended to recognise
the achievements of our top breeders and encourage new members to step into their footsteps.
For two years running, the club has been able to hand this special prize to the winner of the Adult Stock show. The next
Anniversary Challenge with a trophy and £117 prize money will be held at the Adult Stock Show in Cambridge in December 2007.
